Referee Rules

Dear RFC Families,

As we gear up for another exciting season of soccer, we want to share some important updates regarding referee rules and expectations. These changes have been implemented to ensure the game is played fairly, safely, and in alignment with league and governing body standards.

Key Referee Rule Changes:

• Stricter Enforcement of Sideline Behavior: Coaches, players, and spectators must show respect for referees at all times. Excessive dissent or inappropriate behavior from the sidelines may result in warnings, removal from the field, or disciplinary action.

• Zero Tolerance Policy for Referee Abuse: Any verbal or physical abuse directed toward referees—especially our young officials—will not be tolerated. Offenders may face league sanctions, including suspension from games.

• Updated Offside Interpretations: Some minor adjustments have been made to how offside infractions are interpreted. Coaches will receive specific details to help players adjust.

• Emphasis on Player Safety: Referees have been instructed to be more vigilant in enforcing rules related to dangerous play, including slide tackling, head injuries, and excessive physical contact.

• Game Management Adjustments: Referees may now have greater discretion in managing stoppages and issuing warnings to maintain game flow while ensuring fairness.

We encourage all families to support our referees by promoting good sportsmanship and understanding that officiating is a challenging role. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please reach out to your coach or RFC leadership.

Thank you for being a part of RFC and helping us create a positive soccer experience for all!

Best regards,

NMCYS Board
